As the summer season draws nearer and nearer, as well as my trip to the United States, I’m really trying to pick out which items from Sephora I’m prioritizing for my summer makeup. I thought I’d a share a few of my picks with you:
The name, first of all, catches one off guard. Coconut? Watercolor? Gelée? Hah? I like cream blushes, and would a gelée/gel be even more suitable for the summer heat and humidity I’ll find in the East Coast of the USA, China and Japan? That’s what I would like to find out. Pink Escape appealed to me because it is a cool-toned pink and I consider my skin to have more cool undertones than warm. It doesn’t look like it would be a strong red or too bright of a pink, and with my paler complexion, even in summer, it’s important to avoid red cheek products. But on days when I haven’t even stepped out side, I can still achieve the look of sun-kissed cheeks. The great things about this product are that 1) It’s made by Josie Maran, which means it is “3-free” (no parabens, sulfates, or phthalates) and 2) Two of the colors (Pink Escape and Poppy Paradise; yet another color I want to try) come in travel/trial sizes (only $13USD at Sephora!), so they’re great for the summer months when we don’t want to have our travel makeup bags bulging with products we’ve stuffed in for our vacations, and 3) not only is the color supposed to last on your cheeks for up to 14 hours, but the product is also supposed to hydrate the skin for the same amount of time! Ideal for those of you living in a hot but dryer climate during summer.
It’s next to impossible not to look slightly oily during the summer, even with the help of blotting sheets, primers, and powders, but I feel these powders would give you that extra glowing punch. I love my skin tends to look very healthy without any makeup on, even in the summer time, but it also needs protection from the sun and something to lock in my foundation or whatever it is I’m using on my face as well as to keep it from getting too oily. Most powders will mattify, and that’s not exactly the look I’m aiming for. But these three “soft-focus” finishing powders could be the answer to my prayers. For a long time, I didn’t understand the hype behind this palette since they weren’t blushes or bronzers, but still came in different colors. But after seeing some other beauty gurus rave about them, I took to investigating and became fascinated myself. These powders will “capture, diffuse, and soften the way light reflects on skin. Unlike traditional powders, which merely cloak imperfections, Ambient Lighting Powder utilizes photoluminescent technology to filter out harsh light and refine the appearance of the complexion.” Cool beans, right? Not to mention that this palette contains an exclusive shade, Incandescent light. This powders are also paraben, talc, gluten, fragrance, and nano-particle free!
I feel I will never truly be able to emphasize to you guys how pale I am. Not to mention the fact that my skin has become incredibly sensitive to the sun over the past couple of years. In the summer of 2012 I suffered from second degree burns (and more) after an awful day at the beach, and since have developed small blistering bubbles after too much sun exposure. To be safe (as everyone should be), I need to use a tanning product, and Brazilliance has captured my eye. The explanatory video on the page will give you an idea as to how great it is, but what I love is that there is apparently no transfer, smell, and no need to have shaved or exfoliated, perfect for hotel stays. tarte has dazzled the market with the benefits of their products and this self-tanner seems to be no exception.
P.S. this also comes in a travel size for $13USD!!!
I love my shade in Nocturne, not to mention the unbelievable staying power, pigmentation, and moisturizing properties of this lip product. So far, this seems to be my holy grail lip product formula, so naturally, I’m tying to try some shades. Dollface just seems like such a lovely, summery pinky-peach shade, and with the summer weather I’ll be experiencing, I could use the moisture.
What are you looking to add to your summer makeup bag?
Have you used any of these products? What were your experiences?
