May 2014 favorites

As I write this, I’m staring at my screen, jaw hanging low in awe at the fact that JUNE began yesterday. Where has the month gone??? As with every month, I have some favorites to share, and since I missed doing a favorites video for April and I used a lot of the same items this month, I figured I would just write a blogpost detailing some of my favorites that I forgot to include in April, but have also been using throughout May.

Skincare

My skin has been ridiculous the past month or so but I have a few products that have truly been helpful:

Soap & Glory: The Fab Pore  2-in-1 Facial Pore Purifying Mask & Peel

The sensation this gives your skin is unrivaled. It tightens my pores, and the results are immediately visible, and leaves my skin feeling cool, smooth and firm. I used this maybe 3 times in the month of May (about once a week) and it really helped treat my clogging-pores which were really filling up from all the stress of my exam sessions. If you’re going to be/are undergoing a lot of stress or just tend to get really oily, clogged pores I highly recommend this.

Neutrogena: On-the-Spot® Acne Treatment (Benzoyl Peroxide)

When I get breakouts, it’s not usually on my face, but on my chest, shoulders and back, and these spots can be insanely noticeable, especially on my pale skin, but this stuff always saves my ass, because even with just the tiniest application, a it will dry up the spot so it can begin healing. The tube I have is travel sized, but it has held out for almost a whole year. I swear by this stuff.

Makeup

Maybelline: Fit Me Concealer

This stuff is unbelievably blendable and is great at covering spots and under-eye circles and frankly, I’m pissed that I never picked this up before. I’m in need of a repurchase real soon.

Maybelline: Eye Studio Brow Drama (transparent)

This is the first brow gel I’ve ever tried, but I’m seriously impressed with the results. They really help to bring my brows into their natural form, but still structured, since my hair are quite long and sparse, so they’re prone to shifting. I love how it also helps to comb through some of the excess product that my brow brush seems to skim. it’s helped with creating the natural gradient brow that I love. Brow game STRONG thanks to this.

Smashbox: Dual-Ended Blending Brush

This brush came with my Full Exposure palette and has become a staple in my daily makeup routine. The matte end is by far the best end, and one day it had rolled off of my night stand where I was applying my makeup and I nearly had a heart attack when I couldn’t find it. Last weekend, my mom had me do her eye makeup and I explained to her the wonders of a blending brush and how this Smashbox one surpasses the one I bought from Kicks. This one leaves no fallout and blends shades so wonderfully, and fits perfectly in my crease. I honestly don’t know what I would do without it.

Rimmel: Kate Moss lipstick in 01

Since I wasn’t allowed to wear my red Russ overalls during my exams, I took the advantage to wear read lipstick quite a lot, Despite the lovely spring weather we had for most of April and May, I stuck with this Hollywood red shade instead of my more summery 101, and it is killer. I loved pairing it with a classic smokey eye, or even a bright nude eye for contrast. Such a versatile color and so classic too.

Max Factor: Masterpiece Mascara (Black Brown: waterproof)

Aside from the fact that it’s a pain to remove, the formula of this mascara has blown me away. I need to get it in black as well. I don’t have naturally straight or super curly lashes, and I don’t use a curler, but this gem right here makes them super curly, long, and thick when a second coat is applied, and it HOLDS. I didn’t think I would like the brush because it’s plastic, and that reminds me of Maybelline’s The Falsies which I ended up hating. Jay from Just Jay Beauty has written a great review of it, and I was so happy I wasn’t the only one to be presently surprised by the fact that you don’t need to scrape off any excess product off the tip of the wand!

Fashion

The light brown ankle boots from Aeropostale are an item that I picked up last summer in the US and I adore them. I especially got a ton of wear out of them this month since I needed a pair of comfy and casual shoes for my exams and just casually strolling around town.

These boyfriend jeans are from American Eagle Outfitters that I also purchased last summer. I thought for a long time that they looked really silly on me and were nowhere near as comfortable as everyone has been building this styles up to be, but after wearing them almost endlessly this month, I’ve really fallen for them and plan on getting a second pair when I visit the states this summer.

Entertainment

Movie- Avengers: Age of Ultron

As a massive Marvel fan this was a highlight in my month for sure, and I went to go see it twice in one week- that’s how good it was.

Song- Stacy’s Mom by Fountains of Wayne

This song’s beat is so youthful and the lyrics really make me laugh. i love songs that are that way (like 5SoS’s 18).

Book- It’s Kind of a Funny Story

I’m currently reading it, but I really like it. Maybe I’ll get back to you guys on it when i’m done.

App- Water Your Body

I’ve trying my very hardest to drink at least 4 liters of water a day, and this app (while the reminder noise is super embarrassing to have go off in public) has been stellar in helping me make sure I drink enough water throughout the day.

I also have to give an honorable mention to Yankee Candle’s scent Aloe Water. This scent has been so serene and relaxing for me, and the tea candle box I got is lasting me AGES. I’m still only on the first two.

I hope you all had some wonderful times in the month of May and will continue to have them in June! You’ve all really made me feel welcome here on this blog with all of your lovely comments and support.

Have you used any of the products I mentioned?

What were some of your favorite products in May?

Any blogpost requests or suggestions for me?
