When this mascara appeared as a sample option in my online Sephora basket a couple months back I thought, heck, I’d never spend that much on the full-sized one anyway, let’s do it! And man am I glad I did, because buckle up ladies and gentleman, I am in LOVE.
I have not tried any other products from GIvenchy before, but as a luxury brand, I drool over most of their products from the sidelines (shamelessly, I might add). Noir Coutour 4 in 1 mascara though has been a great introduction. This mascara claims to create volume, curl, lengthen, and provide lash care. I can’t speak to much on behalf of the “provide lash-care” claim, but I can say this mascara does 3/4 targets. So how was it arriving at these conclusions? Well, for starters the wand looks bizarre. It has three rounded bobbles that together remind me of a fuzzy black caterpillar, and the concentration of the bristles reminds me of the old Maybelline Great Lash wand circa 2011.
I thought, will this looks odd but could also be really intriguing. Why are they made this way though? The wand is apparently designed to be able to apply product to each and every lash. Now, because of the shape of the tip there was a great deal of excess product hanging off, but none on the rest of the wand. However, I had a bit of trouble trying to apply the product to my outer-corner lashes as well as my far inner corners, simply because of the the shape of the wand not being narrow enough at the top nor wide enough at the bottom. I made it work though, and found that the wand suits the lower lashes really well. It wasn’t too heavy with product so I could build it up as I liked.
The finish of this mascara is superb: It lengthens, volumes and curls without being too clumpy or dramatic, which was the issue I had with my Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. This is really suitable for everyday wear and can be built up for a far more dramatic look.I was impressed with the difference two coats made, not to mention one. I really do love it, but sadly the full-size mascara retails at Sephora for $33 USD, which is quite a lot to spend on one tube of mascara.
Have you tried this mascara? Have you tried any high-end mascaras?
