When I think of Christmas and New Year’s, I think of them differently in terms of metals and tones. Christmas is warm- gold. New Year’s is cool- silver. My look for the last night of 2015 revolved around a silver smokey eye.
For my base I used my Maybelline Fit Me! Dewy + Smooth foundation and concealer, setting it with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light. Silver can wash me out quite a bit, so in order to add some color to my complexion I bronzed my skin with my Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil. For blush, I popped a bit of the Tarte 12 hr. Amazonian Clay Blush in Celebrated on my cheeks, for a slight flush of color.
I prepped my eyelids with my trust Urban Decay Primer Potion to look pigment into place. I used Slated from the Urban Decay Smoky palette, which I gratefully received as a Christmas gift, all over my eye lid. At first, I was mildly disappointed that it wasn’t as pigmented as the shades in my Naked 3, but darker shades can be rather intimidating, especially for a pale girl like myself. The shadow was plenty buildable. With a crease brush, I added more dimension to my eyelid with Dagger. I lined my tightline with my Stila Smudge Proof Waterproof eyeliner in Stingray, and lined my upper lash-line with my Rimmel Kohl pencil, and smudged it out with a rounded flat brush. I took some of Slated under to my lower lash-line to smoke the look out. I then applied Mary Kay’s Mineral Eyeshadow in Blue Metal – the shade I wanted to build the look with- on the center of my eyelid. Blue Metal is as the name suggests, a satin blue-silver. In my inner corners and along my brow bone I used MAC‘s Blanc Type, since it’s matte and I didn’t want shimmer overload on account of the eyeshadow and lip finish. I also took a bit of Blanc Type on a fluffy blending brush and used it to blend the colors on my lid. Silver may wash out my bright eye color a bit, but if I use very warm tones, especially gold, it can make my eyes look a bit too intense. I completed my eyes with my Max Factor MasterpieceMax mascara.
A pop of red was a must for me, and I thought it paired beautifully with my fair skin in a Snow White of way, perfect with the sliver on my eyelids. I lined my lips with my Sonia Kashuk Lip Definer in True Red, and topped that with my Shiseido Laquer Rouge in Nocturne, which is slightly on the raspberry side with a cool undertone. I would say this is my perfect red lip.
I set my brows in place with my Kiss Me Heavy Rotation Coloring Eyebrow. For the finishing touch, I broke out my Benefit High Beam liquid highlight, which was a new concept to me, but I was beyond pleased with the results. High Beam emitted a very natural glow on my cheekbones, brow ridge, nose bridge and cupid’s bow.
