Empties #3

I thought that before sharing the products I’ve enjoyed throughout January, I’d give you guys an update on some products that I recently finished up using. I love “Empties” posts because you get to hear a blogger’s final thought on the product and hear from them whether or not something is really worth purchasing. Without further a-do, let’s get into my thoughts on these products:

Sunsilk Minerals 4 ever fresh Volume & Shine Shampoo

Sunsilk Minerals is a Scandinavian hair care brand that I’ve been using for a few years now, and I have tried several different shampoos and conditioners from them, but thus far, Volume & Shine is my least favorite. This shampoo has a gel-like texture and this doesn’t really seem to agree with my hair. I feel gel formulas seem to weigh my hair down a bit more, which is the exact opposite of what this shampoo claims to do. However, I did use it mostly to deep clean my makeup brushes, which it did a fine job of. I just know I won’t be repurchasing this shampoo again, and may retry some of the other formulas from Sunsilk that I liked, since it’s designed for Scandinavian textures- which, being Scandinavian, I have.

Maybelline The Rocket Volum’ Express Mascara

I did a full review of this mascara a few months back and it even made it’s way into my monthly favorites back in September 2015. While I don’t miss it’s brush poking my eyeball and irritating my waterline, I do miss it’s results from time to time. I’m not in a huge rush to repurchase it, but I definitely would. It sells for such a low price and creates excellent length, volume and curl in your lashes.

Neutrogena One-the-Spot Acne Treatment

I’ve mentioned a few times that this little guy has been my holy grail for individual spot-treatment for several years. There is so much product in this tiny tube, and it costs only $7 or so at the drugstore. A pretty great steal. My skin in recent months however has been breaking out like crazy, especially on my back, chest, shoulders and even arms now. Sadly, this product hasn’t been of as much help as it has been before. I suspect my problem is hormonal or a reaction to something else, but nonetheless, it’s a great quick fix, mainly for overnight use. I repurchased two more tubes of this in the States back at Christmas. I still believe in this stuff!

L’Oreal Infallible The Super Slim

I haven’t tried a ton of liquid eyeliners in my time, but I did enjoy this one. For a drugstore eyeliner, I feel there’s plenty of product for the price, and the felt tip was of excellent quality- not too scratchy. However, I do have an issue with the packaging: the cap for this liner doesn’t close shut very well, and I feel this caused the product to dry up a lot more quickly than it could have if the cap shut properly. Other than that I liked the packaging, especially the matte dip-grip which made the liner a lot easier to hold onto while carefully drawing my flick. While I would like to test other drugstore liquid liners out, I know I will always be satisfied with the results of this one. So yes, I would repurchase this. (Just fix the damn cap, Maybelline!)

Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Top Coat

Yes, I would repurchase this product. This formula was pretty long-lasting and provided a wonderful shine to my nail polish. However, I had love-hate relationships with a few aspects. 1) The brush: It was a wide brush, great for covering larger areas in fewer stroke. BUT it was also rather dense, meaning it packed on a little more product than needed at times. 2)The packaging: It wasn’t clunky in terms of packaging. BUT it was rather pricey for such a small bottle. Truth be told, it lasted me quite a while, but that was only because of the formula. What I loved was that if some got on my cuticles, it could be peeled off. So if I got any nail polish color outside the lines, just swiping some of this over it and peeling it off when dried made my manicure look almost perfect!

Nuxe Rêve de Miel Hand and Nail Cream

Recently I talked about the Rêve de Miel Lip Balm, but this was the product that convinced me the lip balm must be worth checking out. I was devastated when I ran out of this hand cream since it has been nourishing my hands during the colder months for the past year. It helped repair dried and cracked cuticles and kept my skin in check especially when I did karate, and let me tell you- split knuckles and cracked skin is common from punching pillows. It is a bit pricier, but if you’re considering getting the lip balm, I’d recommend you invest your money in this first. it’s definitely worth purchasing, I would love to repurchase it sometime in the near future.
