My Current Mascaras on Rotation

Mascara has always been a staple for me- long before I learned about the wonders of concealer and brow pencils, there was the gunk on wands in tubes that brought out my eyes. I’m always trying and testing new mascaras, and I while I would love to show you all the ones I’ve have lined up to use in the future, I don’t want to open them as mascaras are the fastest expiring makeup products. That being said, here are the six mascaras currently open for use in my makeup collection

Max Factor Masterpiece Max

This one is the baby brother of my beloved Masterpiece (waterproof). Masterpiece Max is a perfect every day mascara. It has a narrow, plastic wand with spokes that get shorter as the wand narrows. It is the only plastic-wand mascara that has yet to poke me in the eye or scratch my waterline. If I find that another mascara is too clumpy, I will run Masterpiece Max through it to separate my lashes again. I’ve even paired it with the L’Oreal Voluminous Original. I find this mascara great for days when I’m wearing eyeliner, as the bolder eyeliner pairs surprisingly well with this non-dramatic mascara. I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I personally adore it.

Max Factor False Lash Effect

False Lash Effect has been declared by just about every British beauty vlogger I’ve come across as a stellar drugstore mascara. I received both the regular and waterproof formulas as Christmas gifts from a friend but waited until now to break it out since it’s a black-brown color, and I loved brown mascaras for spring and summer since they’re more natural and soft on my lashes. But don’t be fooled, this massive wand packs a punch (that’s what she said…). It curls my lashes surprisingly well, providing tremendous lift and curl, opening my eyes up. I was a bit skeptical of the results from the fat wand and short plastic bristles but they have truly shocked me. I can’t wait to do a comparison between the waterproof and regular formulas!

Maybelline Great Lash (regular and Vision in Violet)

I remember back when I was in 8th grade to the old Great Lash wand era being the early days of makeup. Being reminiscent of how much I liked it- subtle but lengthening and lifting, I repurchased it when I started wearing makeup again in 11th grade. However, the wand, which I discovered was the reason I adored it before, had been changed out with this minuscule, bristled spiral. I must say I’m not a fan. I picked two versions of it up last summer to see if they had brought the old brush back, but no such luck. I don’t find they do much for my lashes to be honest. There’s nothing great about my lashes when it’s on! Oh the irony. I thought at least that Vision in Violet would compliment my blue eyes like other purple mascaras do, but no such luck. I found the formula to be super dry and the pigment was hardly noticeable. Sure I wasn’t after a bright purple mascara, but I was expecting something a little more. I’m afraid these two have just been sitting, tending to dust bunnies in my makeup collection.

Covergirl Super Sizer (waterproof)Star Wars: The Force Awakens Limited Edition 2/10

Okay I’ll admit it, I bought this mascara purely for the sake of the awesome Star Wars packaging (with a quote from the late Master Yoda on the side) but it was such an incredible delight to find it worked magic on my lashes. The wand is a little tricky (a tad flimsy) but great once you get the hang of it. Now I have naturally long lashes but I tend to look for mascaras that will lift, curl and separate them so you can see them. Just yesterday my mom was saying that my lashes looked incredibly long- which is only noticeable when a mascara does all of the above. It even gave them volume too! I’ll probably keep this tube since the packaging is so cool. I know Super Sizer is a permanent part of Covergirl‘s range but I hope they bring the Star Wars theme back in 2018 for Episode VIII.

L’Oreal Voluminous Original

I hauled Voluminous Original back in December when I visited the US. I recalled loving it several years ago and thought- why not give it another try? I must say I was rather disappointed as I felt that while it gave my lashes “volume” the formula was super clumpy and really weighed my lashes down. However, I began to appreciate it much more when I learned that pairing it with Max Factor’s Masterpiece Max made for unbelievable bombshell lashes.
